Farm Beach
The trip to Farm Beach is worthwhile with a spectacular drive on beach which is generally suitable in the summer months for boat beach launching. A great spot for picnics.
Farm Beach derives it’s name from the fact that tractors are required for all year beach launching. Many of these tractors are left in a compound at Farm Beach which in itself is of great interest to tourists.
To the North lies 'Gallipoli beach' where the Anzac scenes of the world famous Australian production, 'Gallipoli' staring Mel Gibson was filmed in 1981.
Little Douglas
Originally a fisherman's settlement, Little Douglas which is accessed via Farm Beach lies at the opening of the bay system and features both holiday and permanent residences with land based oyster facilities. The majority of crab fisherman launch here as well as line fisherman. It features a protected little bay suitable for fishing and swimming. The views to the south reveal extensive oyster leases, the main shipping channel and the Coffin Bay National Park with Point Longnose opposite.
Kellidie Bay
Kellidie Bay features beach shacks at the western end and is the bay where the original Coffin Bay Oysters were first dredged in the late 1800's. It is also the bay where the first settlement known as Oyster Town arose. Today it is home to modern oyster leases and on shore operations plus Minniribbie Yabbie and Marron Farm.
Wangary
Surveyed in 1882 Wangary is today a small community which houses the area’s primary school and kindergarten. It also has Marble Range licensed community sports club with oval, tennis and basketball courts.
A lovely little Anglican church built in 1900 is still in use and the ‘Old Hotel’ (no longer licensed) provides fuel, bait, take-away food and drinks.
To the east of the township is Lake Wangary, discovered by Grey in 1844 and originally known as Lake Waungerri, one of the few fresh water lakes on Eyre Peninsula.
Mount Dutton Bay
Mt Dutton Bay has a historical woolshed built in 1875 and a restored heritage listed jetty built in 1880 when ketches serviced this area bringing provisions and taking away the wheat and wool for overseas markets. Prior to the jetty being built ketches were loaded from Farm Beach.
Mt Dutton bay today has a number of permanent and holiday residences plus a boat ramp.
